Allow us to introduce ourselves.

Lindsay Roth and Steven Sechoka smile while playing mini golf in the summer of 2020 in Raynham, MA

We’re Steven + Lindsay, co-owners of The Happy Confection. Before we became business partners, we were (and still are!) husband and wife. We are both equally weird and spend a lot of time making each other laugh. We take miniature golf seriously. We care about social justice and equal rights for all. And we recently took up disc golf and can’t recommend it more. (Our favorite course in MA is at Borderland State Park.)

Lindsay has been a medical cannabis patient since 2017, finding relief from chronic symptoms associated with PTSD, generalized anxiety and depression. The edibles on the market were poorly made and lacked variety. Enter Steven, who started using concentrated THC in edibles as a discreet alternative to smoking flower. His saltwater taffy recipe incorporates THC concentrate without compromising the final product. All said, it’s just a damn good piece of taffy!

Both of us would find ourselves daydreaming about owning our own business, with Steven deploying his culinary management skills and Lindsay taking the reins on marketing and operations. The more idea mapping we did, the more we saw this business as a catalyst to elevate the socioeconomic status of the people and places around us. We also realized how much we would rather work for ourselves and execute our creative vision, together.

As business partners, one is a good complement to the other. Steven received his degree in pastry arts from the Culinary Institute of America and has extensive experience in food operations both in high end luxury and business dining properties. Lindsay is a direct marketer by day and earned her Master’s degree in advertising from Boston University.

Like so many others in The Year of Our Lord 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic changed a lot of plans. For us, it was when Steven was laid off from his job as an executive chef in Boston. We tried to make this pivot work for us and immediately began building our plan to make our dreams a reality.

Then maybe, we panicked a little. OK, mostly Lindsay. But only because we (she) can’t believe we’re going for it (in a good way!). (See also: Type A personalities, control freaks, aforementioned anxiety disorder. OK, time to take a taffy, clearly.)

The bottom line: THC helps us let go and unwind. It allows us to be more present. And it makes us slow down and savor the moments that can be easily robbed by mental illness or everyday stressors of life, in general. That’s what we want to bring to our customers: happiness and relief.

And so begins our path of making The Happy Confection a reality. We’re excited to create an operation that produces high quality products, complies with regulations and sets a high standard in this ever changing industry. And, we want to build a strong brand, rooted in community, along the way. We hope you’ll connect with us on Instagram, sign up for emails and keep in touch.

Sending you lotsa happiness,

Lindsay + Steven
